Jennifer, this literally made my day. I was feeling a little down, clicked over to your blog, clicked over to the epicurious recipe, and gained a newfound appreciation for the sense of humor of my fellow food-lovers.

This comment was my favorite: "Bastards! You've stolen my grandmother's recipe!"

A good belly laugh. Thank you.

Thanks, Cheryl, for pointing that out. I didn't realize that. I googled that issue and found several sources saying fiddleheads can cause GI distress if not boiled for 15 minutes, which of course is too long to cook the tender greens. Come to think of it, this last batch does not seem to have agreed with me entirely. I'm going to go amend my post!

It's funny, I've always loooooved fiddleheads. But at some point I read that if you don't cook them sufficiently they have toxins that can make you sick. This isn't unusual for meat, of course, but for a plant food I thought it was pretty surprising. Do you know anything about this, or am I simply uber-paranoid?

First of all, your daughter is adorable. And where, pray tell, did you find an artichoke that size? Holy cow! I'm glad to know it was tender because I generally shy away from oversize produce, assuming it can't be as good as the more petite versions. But clearly Sofia knows her stuff!

Be glad to skipped Antoines and went to Cochon. I tried to eat at Antoines but the food was so bad (think of the worst airplane food you've ever eaten and multiply it by 10) that I ended up eating snacks from my mini bar before bed!

Cochon was so much better. You made the right choice entirely.

BTW, I ate that crappy breakfast, too.

No. No. No. Please tell me you didn't actually eat that breakfast!! You could have met me at my Khave house!! Next time, ok??
Tell me more about Dooky Chase's.

I'm sorry that I couldn't get to Bayona. I'm sort of sorry that I went to August. And I'm damn glad that I went to Wille Mae's. What a city!!
Julia: check out The Marigny Brasserie, 640 Frenchman St. at Royal. It's off the radar and off the hook good. Fried green tomatoes with crab salad. BBQ shrimp. Pork Belly.
And drinks at d.b.a. down the block are not too shabby.

Thanks for posting, Sara! Your book is truly wonderful and just captured everything that's wonderful about New Orleans. I can't wait to read more of your writing, and would love to know what you're working on now. I'm so glad you're back in New Orleans (Pableaux told me you were moving back!), since your love for the city rings so clear in your book. Best of luck to you, and thanks.

And I would love a recipe for red beans and rice if you have it. I've just ordered Camellia red kidney beans from cajungrocer.com, along with some Poche smoked chaurice (the right sausage or no?), and hope to make some.

Oh, and turkey bone gumbo...? I know you're busy with moving, so don't rush.

Thanks so much.

Thanks for reading my book, and for the plug. If you would like recipes that relate to the text, email me and I will send them along.

I was happy to read that you felt warmly received by the city. New Orleanians are so grateful to be seen and heard. It is still a beautiful city, but a broken one, and the healing process continues.

I was sorry to miss the conference myself, but I was in the middle of a move back down to New Orleans. I am here now.

Lucky you, Julia! You will love Cochon. I also personally recommend Galatoire's and Commander's Palace and have heard great things about Herbsaint, Bayona and August. Happy eating!
